You leave the elevator.

Second Floor Elevator Lounge

Despite being one of the major hubs of activity in the Complex, few people linger here. While there are usually people present, usually they are on their way to someplace else. The lobby is nice enough, with broad tapestries hung on richly paneled walls, and floors of veined black marble; but it is simply too busy for most people to stop and chat in. The occasional tasteful potted plant lurks in the corners, and large mirrors are hung near the elevators for passing lobbyists to check their appearances before descending to the main level. Corridors lead to the northeast and southwest.

From the elevator, The doors slide shut, soundlessly.

Niko really does look obnoxiously cheerful just now, even whistling as he steps off the elevator. "Hiya, Chief. D'you know if Anya's feeling generous today?"

Riley is just ending a low voiced discussion with a pair of security types whose uniforms look like they're right out of the Underground. Nodding as they leave he turns back Security-wards. At the question he hmms questioningly, "I couldn't say for certain. She hasn't threatened me with anything beyond mild bodily harm so far, that's probably a good sign."

You faintly hear a chime mark the hour.

Niko looks after the pair with a hint of interest, though he ventures neither question nor comment on their appearance. "Might as well give it a shot, then." And he's wearing the flowery shirt, perhaps hoping that its comic relief will give him a hand.

Riley nods pleasantly, tucking his hands in his pockets. "It's worth trying." He pauses, "Oh, and Niko? When somebody offers to watch your monitor so you can go hit nice ladies up for dates, could you please remember in the future to come -back- afterwards? That way whoever's watching said monitor doesn't have to wait til the next shift?" He's grinning in a decidedly amused fashion.

Niko pauses at that, looking rather abashed. "Oh. Yeah. Of course, Chief. Sorry about that. Yeah. I just thought..." He shakes his head. "Never mind. I misunderstood. Won't happen again."

Riley continues to look mildly amused, padding security wards. "No harm no foul."

Riley heads towards the Security Central.

Riley has left.

You head towards the Security Central.

Security Central

Unlike most of the rest of the complex, the security offices are designed for ease of use rather than aesthetics. Wood paneled walls and marble floors are not to be found here. Brushed steel and plate flooring take their place. The acoustics in this room are designed to muffle sound, so despite the metal flooring and the constant coming and going of security personnel, the area does not quite achieve a cacophonous state. A large bank of monitors takes up the bulk of the east wall. On each is displayed video from various security cameras as well as information garnered from customs and immigration. It is from here that security can keep an eye on most everything that happens in the Complex. There are always at least two uniformed guards on duty with nothing to do except watch the monitors. A broad desk is located near the entrance, with an officer present to handle queries.

Three arched doors lead from this area. One to the brig, one to private offices, and the third to the elevator lobby.

You arrive from the Second Floor Elevator Lounge.

Riley scoops his messages out of the tray, attempting to hide a smirk as Anya simply stares at Niko's shirt. The dispatcher lifts one eyebrow, "Hi Chief, Flowerchild, y'all behaving?"

Niko, trailing behind Riley, grins brightly at Anya, the last of his embarrassment at his faux pas apparently fading at her reaction. "Relatively, sure. I'll have to add that to my list of entertaining things that folks have called me. My kid sister will be thrilled."

"Behave?" Riley grins in wry amusment, "Now if I started behaving people would think the world was coming to an end."

Anya shakes her head at both men, "Lost causes, the pair of you. I do like the shirt though Niko. Maybe we should petition the uniforms board, get that made the official togs of your position. Then we could have you sit at the front desk and confuse diplomats all day."

Niko looks decidedly pleased at that suggestion. "It'd be more comfortable, too, though that goes without saying." He leans against the edge of the desk nearest Anya's--though not, of course, -her- desk. He likes Anya's pens on her desk, after all, rather than whizzing towards him. "So," he adds. "So." No, he said that. "The schedule. Is it flexible at all? Maybe if I grovel a little?"

Riley perches on a desk corner as well, ostensibly to read through his messages. Of course what he's really doing is playing spectator.

Anya fixes Niko with a look of arched eyebrow indignance, "You want to mess with my artfully arranged schedule? Iolytus Nikolaos Casymed, what am I going to do with you..."

Niko winces. "Ooh, ack, Anya, that's just -cruel-, using the full name like that. All of the sudden, I feel about twelve." His expression shifts to a grin, then. "C'mon, Anya," he wheedles good-naturedly. "I'll look after Addie, and I won't even teach her anything evil."

"That's the idea. Knowing peoples full names is power I tell you." Anya's tone is arch, but she is capable of being wheedled at. Especially if babysitting's offered. "Nothing evil, hmm?" She pauses a long moment, "I -guess- I can change things around a bit for you."

Niko's grin widens, fit to split his face. Gratitude and enthusiasm, aww, he's so cute. "Thanks, Anya. Noting evil," he reiterates. "Promise. I just need an evening free is all. And, of course, whenever you want me to look after the kidlet."

Anya turns to tap at her terminal, poking at with a sigh. "Okay, okay... for this week I'll switch you around to an earlier shift. You can invent excuses. You're young, imaginative, I'm sure you can come up with some doozies as to why the Chief can't answer the comm. Points are given for creativity and lack of repetition."

Niko mumbles, "Sorry, the Chief's getting a Zaeltan out of a tree." Then he grins brightly, standing upright so that he's no longer leaning on the desk. "Thanks a million, Anya. That'll give her a little more flexibility. I owe you, bigtime."

"Dang skippy you do, Flowerchild," Anya's grin belies her words however, "'Her'?"

Riley continues sorting through the messages, dumping about half into the garbage can.

Niko just inclines his head, though his stupid grin gives him away rather obviously. "Her," he confirms.

Anya harrumphs lightly, "See, I told you so."

Niko nods once more. "You sure did," he says brightly. "Still more proof that you're always right. I never should have doubted you, and I most humbly apologize." He doesn't sound very humble, though. He's in too good a mood to be humble.

Anya shakes her head, turning back to her terminal. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, you and everybody else." She turns back to her work at hand.

Riley snickers quietly, having finished working his way through all the message scraps. "This is all part of our grand plan you see, Nick. We're trying to get an in into the enemy camp. You can collect information so that eventually we can stage a penguin rescue."

Niko nods affably to that, a flash of amusement crossing his face. "Collect information. Gotcha, Chief, can do. Have to save the penguins, after all." Now there's something that needs to be emblazoned on a T-shirt. Whales? Nah. Save the -penguins-.

Save the penguins and redeem for valuable prizes. Riley nods affably, heading over to one of the larger monitor displays to check something. "They're been locked away in durance vile by the evil medics. They wait, counting the days, knowing the some day their rescue will come. We must not let them down."

MEDIC> Clara stops drumming a rhythm on Kramer's desk with a pair of pens, and gets up absently to key her way into the vault. A moment later, she emerges with a box heaped with black and white object with little yellow bills, and heads for her office. Several moments later, she returns the empty box to the vault, remaining in there to work on more inventory.

Niko draws himself up and salutes crisply, at rather ridiculous odds with his flowery shirt. "You can count on me, Chief." He grins broadly, adding, "I'd better work on infiltrating enemy camp, then. The things I do for duty."

Riley makes a shooing gesture, "Get on with you then. Some of us have work to do."

Niko does not need to be told twice, and lopes out of the room. "Catch you later, Chief. Thanks again, Anya. Just let me know when you want me to look after Addie." Of course, he flees so she can't let him know -now-...
