You say "Hey, Clara? Got a minute? I've just got a quick question." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and says "Mrf? Gnnn... *yawn* Mm-hmm. I'm here, Niko. What's up?" in Clara's voice.

You say "Oh, sorry! I didn't mean to wake you." He's been up since six, see, and figures everyone's been up for at least some of that time. "I was just wondering... when you said to exercise, was there anything in particular that you had in mind?" into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and announces "Mmm, not a problem. Time t'wake up anyhow. Exercise? Oh, oh! Yeah. Anything cardiovascular's good. Weight lifting. Swimming works, if you don't mind the female ensigns wolf-whistling." in Clara's voice.

You say "*muffled laugh* Yeah, I noticed that." He sounds in high spirits today. "Okay, thanks Clara. That's what I've been doing. I'll keep on with that, then." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and blares "Wellll...someone's in a good mood today. Feeling the cheerioats, sir? And yeah, if that's what you've been doing, that'll work. I'll give you a onceover in a few days to check progress. Just don't overdo it, okay?" in Clara's voice.

You say "*something really vague about oats* I'm in a good mood today? Huh, I -hadn't- noticed." His tone is, of course, patently false, and still decidedly chipper. With a near-audible grin, he adds, "Of course I won't overdo it. I've done this before, after all." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and announces "What, you've been shot before? And yes, you -are- in a good mood. But I won't pry. I'll just make evil insinuations and hope it has to do with something tall, brunette, and very pretty." in Clara's voice.

You say "I've had to recover from being tied to a bed before. Huh... maybe that's the bit of my records that got lost in those mechanical failures. Hang-glider accident when I was eighteen. It was evil. And insinuate all you like, Clara. Ela's definitely the reason I'm in a good mood, though--no, Kathlyn, I'm not giving details. *That last is a little quieter, as if Niko lifted his head from the comm-unit*" into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and announces "*chuckle* No, the hang-glider incident's in your records. Just didn't know you'd been strapped down for it." She seems vastly amused and notes, "Tell Kathlyn details aren't necessary. Whatever the reason, I'm glad you're happy. I've got Riley back in his quarters, by the way. He went off most the monitors and IV last night." in Clara's voice.

You say "Oh, I'll bet he's thrilled! Speaking on that, do you think he could stand a visit from Addie? I mean... does he look okay enough that it wouldn't scare her to see him? She asked last night if he'd come back if we made his office bright enough. Poor kid, she looked like she really missed him." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and blares "*sudden hesitance* Uh...maybe not...-right- now? Maybe later this afternoon? He's still asleep, see?" she adds quickly. "I'm sure he misses her too, though. I'll suggests a shower and real clothes to him before she gets here." in Clara's voice.

You say "Oh, I wasn't thinking right now. Anya's not come in yet, after all, and I think it'll take some fast talking to get her to let me watch Addie again." His tone is definitely amused. "I'll give you a buzz when I know a bit more?" into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and says "That's not a bad idea, yeah." Relief. Oh, yes, there is relief in that tone. "Why would it take fast talking to get her to let you watch Addie? I thought you were great with kids." in Clara's voice.

You say "Well, it depends on your perception. Addie had a great time. -I- had a great time. But... well, there was paint. I looked worse than Addie did, at least." There's a muffled snicker. "Ela literally fell over laughing when she saw me." As he catches that relief, he adds, amusement turning to solicitous concern, "If he's not up for this, Clara, it can wait. I didn't suggest it to Addie or Anya--wanted to check with you, first." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and announces "*spluttered, distant laughter, as if she had just fallen over herself* That's -classic-, Niko. Oh, I do hope someone got a picture." She pauses to yawn again, then notes in a quietly affable tone, "He's fine, Niko. Just still sleeping is all. I think a visit from his favorite namesake would do him a world of good." in Clara's voice.

You say "*amusement* I'll see if I can get them to part with a copy of the picture, and I'll bring it with me. I'm still kind of orange in places, though--should've washed the paint off more quickly." Funny, he doesn't sound at all sorry that he didn't get to it, though. "And I'll bring it up with Anya when she gets here. Brought some raspberries, so maybe she'll only kill me a little." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and announces "Ah-hah! Raspberries for Anya. You're definitely learning...very smooth indeed. *small laugh* I don't think I'll ask if your cohabitant is besmattered with paint, though." There's a pause, then Clara asks seriously, "Niko...has General Ranshek called looking for Riley yet today?" in Clara's voice.

You faintly hear a chime mark the hour.

You say "Fleet Admiral Ranshek? No, not yet." He carefully doesn't say anything about Ela and paint, or the nasty notes he's going to get from laundry because of the paint on the sheets. "I can find out if Riley's awake, if he does call, maybe patch the call through?" into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and blares "Yeah, that's the one." Hey, if you're not mentioning sheets, neither will she. Nor scandelized penguins. "Would you please? It really doesn't matter if he's awake. I'll wake him up. He's been out for eleven hours anyway, the bum," she adds with a snicker." in Clara's voice.

You say "All right, can do. Have to say, though, I hope Anya gets here before he calls. Something about knowing that you're talking to a -Fleet Admiral-... gah. Reminds me, I've got to go talk to Guido. Maybe later today." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and announces "*laugh* I have no clue if he'd even call, Niko. All I know is he was giving Riley some scary ideas about what to do with a certain Major the other day. Surprised the heck out of me. *pause* Guido? Why?" in Clara's voice.

You say "*pause* Uh. Just want to talk to him about a few things. *Another pause* See, if he's going to make a stink about what happened in the rec hall, I'd kind of like advance warning." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and announces "Oh, no...do you think he can? He's a civilian now, though. And what happened in the rec hall was never recorded except...oh, lord." There's a sound of rustling cloth and scrambling. "My med records!"" in Clara's voice.

You say "See, that's the problem. I don't -know- what all he can do." There's a pause, then he says, a little more quietly, "It did happen, Clara. I -should- have made sure, before I fired. If it's in your med records, then so be it." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and blares "Niko, listen to me. I can make small alterations in my records, both legally -and- ethically." More backgrounds sounds of rustling cloth, then a pause. "In this case, I can make a command decision to delete your name from the circumstances. And I will." in Clara's voice.

You say "Clara... no. This doesn't... it's not right." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and says "Don't argue with me, Niko. I am -not- letting you take any heat on this. It was an accident, for crying out loud. Not to mention you found the cure for the chemical reaction." in Clara's voice.

You say "But even though it was an accident, I still -did- it. And I -should- have made sure. What if I'd used the plasma bolter setting? There are sims where that's required--depends on the dampner field." into the communit.

Your communit crackles to life and announces "No what if's, Niko. What happened is what happened. You -didn't- bolt, Riley. Guido did, and he did it on purpose. Leave the possibilities in the trash can, cause if you don't, they'll eat you alive. We have to focus on practicalities, and what's going on here and now." in Clara's voice.

Niko exchanges a few words with Kathlyn, and gets to his feet.

You head towards the Second Floor Elevator Lounge.

Second Floor Elevator Lounge

Despite being one of the major hubs of activity in the Complex, few people linger here. While there are usually people present, usually they are on their way to someplace else. The lobby is nice enough, with broad tapestries hung on richly paneled walls, and floors of veined black marble; but it is simply too busy for most people to stop and chat in. The occasional tasteful potted plant lurks in the corners, and large mirrors are hung near the elevators for passing lobbyists to check their appearances before descending to the main level. Corridors lead to the northeast and southwest.

Medical Bay

Even the circulation of air can't quite keep the antiseptic smell from this room. Immaculately clean, the tiles of the floor are the same pristine white as the walls. Gadgets and gizmos abound. The highest medical technology available for all the races that might conceivably come to the station are present. A pair of beds near the door provide places for emergent cases, their bioscan devices ready for monitoring. Doors lead to rooms for surgery, short-term care, and long-term care. (OOC note: To set your room doing, try 'I'm <doing>'.)

You arrive from the Second Floor Elevator Lounge.

Clara waves off Kramer, plunking down behind the first empty terminal she sees and typing in her logon code, then pushes back a mass of curls while muttering at the screen intently. "C'mon...bring it up..."

Niko's serious expression is decidedly odd when one considers that half of his face is still orange. "Clara, don't do it," he protests. "What if Guido -does- make a fuss? They'll wonder why it's not in the records, won't they?"

Clara is sufficiently distracted by the orange to stop typing for a moment, peering up, utterly nonplussed. "Laundry's going to give you six kinds of hell," she breathes, another tangle of curls falling in her eyes as she blinks back on target. "What if he does? I explain my point of view, then. There's nothing they can do to you on only the word of man accused of attempted murder."

Niko pads over to the terminal, ignoring the laundry-related comment for now. "If they ask me if I did it," he says quietly, "I'll have to say yes. So they would have more than Guido's word."

Clara still hasn't resumed typing, brows furrowed as she peers up in rather unhappy confusion. "And if you say you did it, are you going to report the rest of the story? Don't you -understand- what happens if they decide it was a punishable offence?"

Niko leans against the side of the desk. "I understand," he says quietly. "And I'd give as full a report as I'm allowed. But if they ask... I can't -lie- about it. You understand that, right?"

Clara looks away, unable to meet your eyes, and stares at the terminal with a troubled expression. "I know. I can't either," she says quietly. "All I could do was this little bit..." She sighs and sinks her forehead into her hands. "I could order you to stand back and let me do this. But I won't. Is this really what you want?"

Niko shakes his head slowly. "I just don't want there to be -more- trouble from all this." He smiles tightly, then adds, "And who knows? Guido might keep his mouth shut. We could be worrying for nothing."

Clara regards you for a long moment, then sighs and punches the escape code into her computer and leans back. "Maybe he won't. Maybe it won't matter if he does."

Clara logs off the terminal and climbs to her feet, ignoring the looks from Kramer very clearly saying 'you're still off duty' and nods. "And I have a patient to check on." She finally returns the smile, tilting her chin at Security. "I'll walk you to the lobby. You look good in orange, by the way."

Niko manages a chuckle at that as he heads for the lobby. "I'll tell Addie."

Clara has arrived.

Clara laughs, shaking her head. "She'll be thrilled, no doubt. Take care of yourself, Niko." Her smile quirks into mischievous amusement. "Focus on whatever it was you were so happy about earlier, huh? Probably keep you in a better mood all day," she explains innocently, then punches at the elevator button.

Amazing what happens when one blushes when half of one's face is orange. Talk about interesting colors. "I'll, uh, do that," Niko says, a quick grin crossing his face. "Good advice. Say hi to Riley for me, huh?" With that, he ducks into Security.
