Kyara arrives from the Second Floor Elevator Lounge.
Kyara has arrived.
Niko is, as usual, sitting before a monitor, attention half on said monitor,
half on the paperwork in front of him. Nothing too bizarre. "Hi, Kya," he
says absently.
Kyara whistles merrily as she moves around the reception desk toward her own
appropriated spot. Passing Niko on the way, she drops an envelope onto his
desk. "Happy belated and all that."
Niko's brows lift a bit, but his "Thanks!" is pleasant enough as he picks up
the envelope in question and opens it--carefully. Gifts from women in this
room tend to be frightening.
Kyara continues on her way, not even bothered at this point by the notion of an afternoon of mug-scrubbing. Whether the gift is frightening depends on your point of view- it's a gift certificate for 10 games of lasertag.
Niko pulls out the gift certificate, and grins. "Hey, this is great, Kya. Thanks! Good way to practice ducking, huh? Easier on the clothing, at least."
Kyara nods, grinning slyly. "You're welcome. There's also no danger of turning
anybody green."
Kyara also ducks.
Niko, with great dignity, wads up a piece of paper and tosses it at Kyara.
"Hey, depends what they've been drinking."
You faintly hear a chime mark the hour.
Kyara giggles, not without a slight blush, and catches the paper as it bounces
off a horn. "Riley'll like his present too, I think. Do y'know if he's come
back in yet?" She aims for a distant wastepaper basket and throws... *swish*.
Nothin' but net.
Niko taps at a monitor for a moment. "Nope, he's still out there. Looks like
Clara left the Complex, too."
Kyara nods, juggling a trio of mugs. "That's not especially surprising. He's
okay, isn't he?"
Niko nods amiably. "Sure. Just needs some time to get back to himself is all."
Kyara's brows furrows thoughtfully. "Get back to himself?"
Niko nods, reaching for a new form. "Recover," he clarifies. "Gain some weight,
stuff like that."
Kyara whews, adding a mug to the bunch circling in the air. "Thank goodness. For a moment there I thought you meant mentally, not physically."
Niko shakes his head slowly. "Mmmm, no," he murmurs, snagging a manual and
flipping through it, with a mutter about query rates. "Ah... there. No. Far's
I can tell, Riley's fine, mentally."
Kyara nods, eyes flicking between the mugs and Niko. "What about you? How're
you doing in that department?"
Niko blinks twice, looking up from his paperwork. "Well, I'm a psychopath, now," he says, quite deadpan. "Other than that, I'm fine."
Kyara sticks her tongue out at Niko. "Well, at least it won't be boring."
Niko grins brightly, before ducking his head back over the paperwork. "No,
certainly not boring," he agrees.
Kyara snickers. "As if it could ever get boring around here." Somehow she
manages to gesture between juggling, indicating Central. "When're you going
to bring Ela over so I can meet her?"
Niko scrawls a few more lines on his form. "Depends," he says vaguely. "Her
schedule's kind of weird. Junior diplomat, y'know."
Kyara makes a face. "I can sympathize," she notes dryly. "I guess I'll just
have to pounce when I get the chance then."
Niko suggests idly, still scratching away at the form, "If y'want, I can see if she's out of the most recent evil meeting, bring her down here now."
Kyara grins, catching the cups one by one to actually clean them. "That'd be
great."
Niko nods affably, and puts down his writing utensil.
You say "Hon? You out of the evil meeting yet? Got somebody down here who wants
to meet you." into the communit. [to Elasia]
Your communit crackles to life and announces "Yeah, give me just a minute to haul my shoes back on. Where am I supposed to be heading?" in Elasia's voice.
Roland arrives from the Second Floor Elevator Lounge.
Roland has arrived.
You say "Security. Not too far." into the communit.
Roland strolls in, nevermind the subnet masks floating about his player's head.
Kyara nods to Niko, then perks up, grinning. "Roland! What's up?"
Your communit crackles to life and announces "I'll be down in just a minute."
in Elasia's voice.
You say "Great, thanks hon. See you in a few." into the communit.
Niko nods pleasantly to Roland as he puts down his comm-unit. He adds to Kyara,
unnecessarily, "She's on her way."
Roland clears his throat as he looks at Kyara. "Actually came to apologize for
the other night. Got caught up in a fist or two."
Kyara nods absently to Niko. "Who is?" She turns her head to blink at Roland,
then smiles sweetly. "I've know idea what that means, but it's okay. I don't
suppose you've come to claim your raincheck?"
Roland grins. "Well, we could try again for another night."
Niko rolls his eyes at Kyara, but doesn't comment, instead turning back to his
paperwork. He's not listening. Really.
Kyara tilts her head. "Mmmm, any particular night you have in mind?"
Roland shrugs, his hands open for suggestion. "I never have a set schedule."
Elasia arrives from the Second Floor Elevator Lounge.
Elasia has arrived.
Niko looks over with a bright grin as Elasia enters, lifting a hand to attract
her attention. "Over here, hon."
Kyara grins. "How about tonight? Like... right now?"
Elasia comes wandering in, still dressed as if for work, with a box in one
hand. She glances around briefly, making sure she's in the right place. Since
the place is sort of unmistakable, she's willing to bet she got it right. As
Niko waves to her she grins and heads over, "Hello dear, I brought bribes."
She offers the box.
Roland blinks at Kyara for a moment then grins. "Sounds like an idea to me."
Niko shakes his head fractionally at the overheard conversation, though he
brightens perceptibly. "Bribes?" he echoes, drawing the attention of a few
fellow Security-types. "You'll definitely endear yourself to the folks here
with a word like that."
Kyara doesn't quite toss the cups aside in her eagerness. "Niko? Can I?" She notices Elasia now, and looks her up and down with a neutral expression.
Elasia proffers the white pasteboard box to Niko, "More cookies. I said I'd
make them, and I uh, got a little carried away." She offers Kyara a pleasant
nod of greeting in return for the neutral look.
Niko says mildly, "I'm not going to say no, Kyara." He doesn't say anything about responsibility, either, but his expression does that for him. Kathlyn, however, rolls her eyes and tells Kyara, "Go ahead. Don't pay any attention to him. He'll be leaving soon enough anyway." Niko politely raspberries Kathlyn, then grins brightly at Elasia. "Great, thanks?" He manages to snag a cookie before another SecOff snitches a few as well.
Kyara casts her eyes down, moving to join Roland. "I'll come back and do 'em
later, I promise, Niko."
Niko's head bobs in a slow nod. "Of course, Kya," he says, tone still mild, but
words a bit muffled. He's got cookies, see.
Elasia is starting to look a bit confused, but shrugs it off, letting someone
relieve her of the box of cookieage. "Not a problem, I figured bribery
couldn't hurt." She grins.
Roland glances at Niko then at Kyara. "Are you sure now's good for you?"
Kyara nods firmly. She mutters to Roland, "... worry... He's a stick..."
Niko's brows arch very slowly at what he hears of Kyara's words, and she gets a
brief look before he turns back to Elasia, introducing her around. "That's
Kathlyn," he concludes, "Whose stories about me are not to be believed. And
over there are Kyara and Roland, who, it seems will be leaving us soon.
Kyara's the one who asked to meet you."
Elasia perks up a bit at one of those words, and echoes it, "Stories?" Kathlyn
gets marked down for later reference. She offers a polite wave, "Nice to meet
you all."
Roland glances at Niko, back at Kyara, one last one at Niko and gives Elasia a quick little mock-salute and turns to Kyara. "Well in that case, shall we?"
Kyara nods to Elasia in the midst of beating a quick retreat. "You'll do. You
understand bribery. Let's go, Roland."
Kyara heads towards the Second Floor Elevator Lounge.
Kyara has left.
Roland heads towards the Second Floor Elevator Lounge.
Roland has left.
Elasia shifts to lean against the edge of Niko's desk carefully, chuckling.
"Ooh, a vote of confidence."
Niko just shakes her head. "I'm sorry about that," he says, casting a look
after the pair. "Wouldn't have dragged you down here if I'd known she was
going to do that." Kathlyn smirks and murmurs, "Sure you would've. You're off
duty, too, Junior, as of fifteen minutes ago." Niko blinks, peers at his
chrono, then grins. "Huh. So I am."
Elasia glances at her chrono as well, amazingly overlooking the fact that a
half hour has passed since the time was mentioned. "Ooh, off duty? Want to
head on out then?"
Passage of time? What's that? "That," Niko says, "sounds like an excellent
idea."
Elasia offers you a hand with a grin, "Let's skeedaddle then."
Niko snitches another cookie or two from the box, then takes the offered hand. "Where are we going?" he inquires, as he heads for the elevator lounge.
Elasia shakes her head as she trails along afterwards, "I haven't a clue. Home? The dining hall? Flip a coin? I'd just gotten back in when you commed."
Niko considers that. "Well, I guess that depends on whether you want to cook.
If not, I'd rather we head downstairs, as I'm going to need to get something
to eat eventually."
"I don't mind cooking," Elasia offers with a chuckle, "It's up to you though.
It's been too long a day for making decisions."
Niko mimes flipping a coin, then peers into his empty hand. "Upstairs it is. I can get dinner--well, if there's more frozen stuff," he corrects, with a grin.
Elasia glances up at you with a grin and nods, "Half a freezer full," she
assures.
